Fourth Sunday of Advent 2021

O Antiphon: O Root of Jesse, standing as a sign among the peoples; before you kings will shut their mouths, to you the nations will make their prayer: Come and deliver us, and delay no longerRejoice, Rejoice, Emmanuel shall come to thee, O Israel.

Jesse Tree Story: GIDEON

Jesse Tree Symbol: PITCHER

Scripture: "The three groups blew their horns and smashed their pitchers; with their left hands they grasped the torches, with their right hands the horns for blowing them; and they shouted, 'The sword for Yahweh and for Gideon!' And they stood still, spaced out round the camp. The whole camp was thrown into confusion and the Midianites fled, shouting.”
Judges 7:20-21

Commentary: God revealed His power to Gideon, who came from a poor family, by letting his army of 300 men defeat more than 100,000 at Midian. Gideon followed the Lord's instruction to have his men approach the town with their torches hidden under pitchers. The people of Midian were so startled when the pitchers were broken that many began fighting among themselves. Gideon became a leader and judge, helping his people obey God's true laws.
