Fourth Sunday of Advent 2016

~The O ANTIPHON for today is O COME, O LORD AND RULER~
"O Come, o Come Thou Lord of Might,
Who to thy tribes on Sinai's height,
In ancient times didst give the law,
In cloud, and majesty, and awe."

Jesse Tree Story:  GIDEON
Jesse Tree Symbol: PITCHER

Scripture: "And when they had sounded their trumpets in three places around the camp, and had broken their water pitchers, they held the lamps in their left hands, and sounded the trumpets in their right hands. And they cried out, “The sword of the Lord and of Gideon!” And each one was standing in his place throughout the camp of the enemies. And so the entire camp was in confusion; and they fled away, wailing and crying out."
Judges 7:20-21

Commentary:
God revealed his power to Gideon, who came from a poor family, by letting his army of 300 men defeat more than 100,000 at Midian.  Gideon followed the  Lord’s instruction to have his men approach the town with their torches hidden under pitchers.  The people of Midian were so startled when the pitchers were broken that many began fighting among themselves.  Gideon became a leader and judge, helping his people obey God’s true laws.
The symbol is a pitcher.
